Messaging app Vodi using BitPay to accept bitcoin payments

Bitcoin payment processor BitPay announced on its corporate blog Monday a partnership with international mobile messaging app Vodi to integrate bitcoin payments.

Available for both Android and iOS devices, Vodi offers free text messaging and phone and video calls. Users can make airtime top-up payments to more than 390 mobile phone service providers in 135 nations. These payments also serve as gifts Vodi users can send to each other.

Vodi also has a digital gift card service; users can redeem these cards at checkout through the app. Vodi’s card selection includes more than 90 offerings from brands in the U.S. and Mexico, with additional countries to come. Users can get a digital gift card in seconds with a bitcoin payment in the app. Through BitPay, Vodi users can use their preferred bitcoin wallet to pay.

“Mobile payments are an exciting use case for bitcoin, and gift card and top-up payments have proven to be especially popular with international bitcoin users,” said BitPay in the blog post. “We’re excited to continue to work with the Vodi team to explore new opportunities for bitcoin in the mobile messaging world.”
