BitPay announces free-of-charge payment processing plan
On July 29th, Bitcoin payment processing platform BitPay announced a new plan void of any processing fees. Titled the “Basic Plan” and labeled as “Free, Unlimited, Forever,” the plan allows merchants to “use any plugin, API, or app from BitPay’s library and grants them access to BitPay’s industry-leading support,” according to a blog post posted on the Bitcoin payment processor’s website Tuesday.
The move to provide their processing service for free is attributed to their mission “to make bitcoin every merchant’s favorite form of payment.”
BitPay adds:
“We want merchants to not only use our service — we want them to love our service. We want them to be as excited about Bitcoin as we are and to encourage more of their customers to pay this way. After experiencing such a simple, low-cost, and low-risk payment option, we’re confident they won’t look back.”
The Basic Plan allows for “unlimited processing volume, instant conversion, daily bank deposit, retail POS solutions, 22 eCommerce integrations and email support.” The plan is flanked by the premium Business (second tier) and Enterprise (first-tier) plans, which charge a flat fee, but offer more features such as quickbooks integration for Business and VPN access for Enterprise plans.
According to a Reddit AMA by the BitPay marketing team, the Basic Plan is available internationally.
“We’re trying to eliminate barriers to entry,” stated BitPay Marketing Manager Tony Sakich. “Processing fees should not make or break a merchant’s decision to embrace Bitcoin.”
“We’re on a quest to onboard one million merchants by the end of 2016. Join the global economy and start accepting bitcoin today,” concludes BitPay.
