IBM announces initiatives to expand blockchain technology to various industries
In a press release sent to CoinReport, the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) said it has made nearly 44,000 lines of code available to the open-source Hyperledger Project led by The Linux Foundation. This move is one in a series of initiatives dedicated to expanding the use of distributed ledger technology to various industries.
IBM’s additional announcements included:
- New blockchain services on the IBM Cloud – Through IBM’s blockchain services on Bluemix, developers can access integrated DevOps tools for creating and managing new services on the IBM cloud.
- Enabling Internet of Things (IoT) data on blockchain – Through IBM’s Watson IoT Platform, information from devices such as barcode scans, device-reported data and RFID-based locations can be used with IBM’s blockchain.
- IBM Garages for blockchain app design and implementation – IBM Garages will open in London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo so that the company’s experts can work with developers on creating blockchains for businesses.
- Expansion of IBM services to new clients – IBM Global Business Services will expand its blockchain consulting services to companies in banking, financial services and logistics. IBM Interactive Experience (IBMiX) will also work with clients to co-design new use cases for blockchain in 25 IBM Studios worldwide.
IBM further explained that it has partnered with global powerhouses, including the London Stock Exchange and Finnish organization Kouvola Innovation.
