USAA expands bitcoin integration to all member accounts
Financial services company United Services Automobile Association (USAA) announced earlier this week that account holders can now view their Coinbase account information within the company’s site.
“Traditionally, USAA is very good about getting in front of emerging technology trends,” said Jon Cholak, lead investment associate for USAA’s Corporate Development team. “What we’re developing is at the forefront of the financial services industries.”
The expansion follows a successful pilot program launched late last year in which select USAA employees and members were able to view their Coinbase information on the company’s site and mobile app. Cholak participated in the program, along with senior information security analyst Carl Mehner and software engineer Donald Berg.
“It’s pretty neat to see my bitcoin balance immediately when I log on,” said Mehner.
“Bitcoin could easily be the currency of tomorrow,” said Berg.
More than 11,000 members have Coinbase accounts.
According to Brave New Coin, members only need to go to their summary accounts page, add an account, and sign into Coinbase. After this setup, Coinbase accounts will appear alongside other non-USAA accounts. Currently, account holders can only view their balances.
