Zebpay debuts Bitcoin wallet in India
Singapore-based Zebpay Ventures has announced the release of the Zebpay mobile wallet application in India. The mobile wallet app aims to make Bitcoins available in the country, reported the website TechOne3. The app is initially available for free download for Android devices and will soon be available for iOS.
The wallet allows users to buy, store, and spend Bitcoins using their mobile numbers, meaning users do not have to register for a separate Bitcoin wallet to start using the digital currency in India, said TechOne3.
Using the open-source Bitcoin technology, Zebpay allows users to send and receive Bitcoins just like a message transaction. The application also has airtime and Flipkart integration to let users spend Bitcoins on new purchases.
“Considering the penetration of smart phones and mobile commerce, we visualized that an application for the bitcoin currency would be the ideal future of money and thereafter Zebpay was born,” said Saurabh Agrawal, Zebpay’s JT-CEO, as reported by TechOne3. “We realized the potential that Bitcoin technology had, to bring financial freedom to billions of people in the world. With this vision, we are proud to announce the launch of Zebpay app in India.”
To foster the use of Bitcoin in India, Zebpay is distributing free Bitcoins worth 300 Rupees to users who download the app and invite their contacts by sending them a text message directly from the app.
Incorporated in India last year, Zebpay earlier bought the website buysellbitcoins.in to starting providing a Bitcoin exchange platform in India and is now targeting to reach 15,000 active users through the wallet app, said TechOne3.
The company is poised to expand its business in Indonesia, the Philippines, and the United Arab Emirates later this year.
