Russia considers launching digital currency
Yesterday, Russia announced its interest in creating a national digital currency and blockchain technology.
According to News.Markets, the announcement was made by Olga Skorobogatova, deputy chairwoman of the Bank of Russia, at the Blockchain and Open Platforms conference hosted by Bankir.ru. Russian site forklog reported that Skorobogatova showed strong interest in blockchain technology for validations and processing distributively stored information. Back in February, forklog reported that Skorobogatova stated the possibility of introducing blockchain technology into Russian financial markets in the 2017-2018 year.
Russia joins a growing string of nations and government organizations, including Australia, China and the European Union, that have expressed interest in digital currencies and blockchain technology.
