Popular Gift Card Provider Gyft Stops Walmart Support
Gyft, a popular mobile gift card provider, has sent an email announcement to its customers that it no longer provides Walmart gift card support. This means that users have lost the ability to buy Walmart gift cards on the Gyft platform. Gyft accepts Bitcoin payments and even gives 3% “Gyft points” back to virtual currency users. Walmart was added to the Gyft network on March 24 because of the popular demand.
Gyft No Longer Supports Walmart Gift Cards
In the email, Gyft wrote,
“Due to circumstances beyond our control, we need to remove Walmart from our list of participating retailers, effective April 13, 2014. Rest assured that we are doing everything in our power to bring them back up as soon as possible.”
Vinny Lingham, Gyft’s CEO, has taken a great liking to Bitcoin and in a recent post; Lingham explained how Bitcoin really helped the company grow.In May 2013, Gyft began accepting Bitcoin through BitPay.
Even though users will be unable to buy new Walmart gift cards, Gyft expressed that already existing Walmart gift cards can be purchased on the network and can be redeemed. In addition, Gyft encourages bitcoin users who are upset about this decision to contact Walmart about the issue. It said in the email,
“If you are as disappointed as we are about this decision by Walmart, please email them at [email protected] and let them know how you feel about it.”
Gyft Trying to Resolve the Situation
Lingham spoke to CoinDesk and signified that Gyft would try to understand the decision and continue speaking to Walmart. Lingham said,
“We will continue to talk to them, but it’s a giant organization… I can’t speak to their reasoning at this stage.”
This may certainly be true; however, it will be good to know why exactly Walmart isn’t part of the platform’s gift cards anymore.
Even though Walmart gift cards have been taken out, Gyft still offers the option to buy other popular retailers’ gift cards. These include, ToysRUs, Target, Gamestop, Sephora, JCP, and many more. Whether or not Walmart gift cards will be back on Gyft, the platform offers other incentives for customers’ to use its services.
Hi, actually YesToBitcoins.com just launched Walmart gift cards, (you can get them here http://yestobitcoins.com/e-gift-card-for-walmart-com/) . Although YesToBitcoins uses the same processing engine as Gyft (bitpay), it is not integrated to Walmart’s system like Gyft (YesToBitcoins purchases directly from Walmart as a private agent for the bitcoin client). So it is Walmart itself that emails the gift card.
