eBay payment unit Braintree reportedly considering accepting Bitcoin
The Wall Street Journal reports that eBay has been quietly working to integrate acceptance of Bitcoin into its Braintree payments subsidiary, part of its PayPal unit.
People close to the matter told the paper that PayPal officials have met with several companies that foster Bitcoin transactions, such as Coinbase, in recent weeks. PayPal has not yet reached any agreements. The timing of when Braintree would accept the virtual currency is dependent partly on such an agreement.
eBay and PayPal would not initially accept Bitcoin, sources told the Wall Street Journal, but that could change over time. eBay Chief Executive John Donahoe told the paper last year he was considering means of using Bitcoin.
