Japan Gibier Promotion Association picks mijin to solve game meat supply control, management

Fintech and digital currency solutions firm Tech Bureau announced in a press release CoinReport received a first blockchain use case for Japan Gibier Promotion Association (JGPA), a division of the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The JGPA requires a safe supply chain to adhere to Japanese distribution standards for wild game meat. They intend to develop a secure supply chain and distribution channel to assure quality food for public health. The division has decided to use the mijin blockchain (an NEM protocol blockchain), which is developed by Tech Bureau, to create and store its transaction records.

From the hunting field to the restaurant, the division needs to record data from the meat supply chain. This is the first government deployment of the mijin blockchain.

The moment meat data from the processing factory is recorded on the mijin blockchain, it cannot be fiddled. It will be utilized as standard to match data in the conventional supply chain. In the event the data doesn’t correspond, the new system automatically issues warnings, creating a transparent and traceable supply chain to supervise game meat and ensuring the highest quality control of the perishable end product.

Tech Bureau CEO Takao Asayama said in the release we received, “Some rural communities suffer from wildlife overpopulation, amounting to over 178m USD per year. The power of blockchain technology is that it can transform one of the oldest food supplies into an asset for local communities.”

Through the mijin tamper-resistant blockchain, the JGPA will find out whether data (item name, manager, date, transit point, price, amount, etc.) from the game meat processing factory is correctly entering the blockchain in a visible and confirmable way, and whether the warning system developed for automatic detection of forged data is complete.

The JGPA initiate deployment in October and ultimately roll out the new system countrywide.
