Crowdfunding platform FundedByMe launches Bitcoin pilot project
FundedByMe, a Swedish crowdfunding platform, is launching a Bitcoin pilot program that will allow investors to use the digital currency to purchase stakes in a Bitcoin trading company, reported Reuters.
The company said the project would be the first of its kind to be hosted by a major crowdfunding platform. Under the pilot project, Safello, a trading company, will accept Bitcoin from investors during its 45-day campaign that began on Wednesday.
“We see that among our investors, a great many of them are early-adopters,” said Daniel Daboczy, co-founder and CEO of FundedByMe, in a press release. “We also know that bitcoin users are familiar with new inventions at any early stage. That’s why we thought that we may offer both groups something interesting.”
The pilot project also accommodates the Bitcoin community, said Frank Schuil, co-founder and CEO of Safello, in the release.
“We have already done it in previous rounds of raisin funds. On the other had we know that many of our customers would be interested to invest if they can do so with Bitcoins. As a Bitcoin company we of course need to support this. For customers who are already verified with Safello this will also be the easiest way to investment,” said Safello.
Daboczy said he is not worried about the success of the campaign, stating it is “very attractive and there will probably be many investors waiting to allocate their money.” He said in the press release that the campaign is anchored by the Digital Currency Group, which incubates and seeds Bitcoin and blockchain technology-related companies.
