CoinDesk publishes list of 10 best US universities offering blockchain education

CoinDesk, the leading digital media, events and information services firm for the crypto asset and blockchain technology community, has published a list of top 10 U.S. universities offering blockchain education.

Lately, universities all over the globe have invested heavily in creating curriculums and resources around blockchain technology, said an email CoinReport received from Wachsman, CoinDesk’s PR company, on the news, adding that digital currencies and blockchain technology are especially hard to educate because they are fundamentally interdisciplinary topics, taking ideas from fundamentals in business, economics, computer science and law.

CoinDesk picked the universities on three key quantitative factors, including each university’s access to the blockchain technology industry (5 percent), the number of blockchain clubs on campus (25 percent) as well as the number of blockchain-related courses (70 percent).

CoinDesk calculated the final ranking by standardizing the scores for each of the three factors by dividing each factor score by the maximum observed score in that category, says its website page sharing the results. Giving an example, CoinDesk says that each university’s course score was divided by the highest recorded course score. The three factor subscores were then merged according to their individual weighting, presenting the final score for each university.

The media, events and information services company notes that all three factors of the rankings will possibly change as the time passes. The report’s scores are reflective of data that was collected back in August.

The 10 best U.S. universities offering blockchain education and their total scores (in brackets), according to CoinDesk, are:

3. New York University (84%)
4. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (68%)
5. Cornell University (65%)
6. Georgetown University (50%)
7. Harvard University (47%)
8. Duke University (41%)
9. Carnegie Mellon University (35%)
10. University of Pennsylvania (33%)
