BitTorrent to launch token-rewarding software Speed this summer
Popular peer-to-peer protocols and products company BitTorrent, Inc. announced at its niTROn blockchain conference in San Francisco the expected launch of BitTorrent Speed, software that connects and rewards users with BitTorrent (BTT) tokens, this summer.
The software with its token will be the world’s largest blockchain application for speedy downloading and uploading of files. It will be available on the popular µTorrent Classic Windows client.
TRON founder and BitTorrent CEO Justin Sun said in a press release CoinReport received, “With BitTorrent Speed, we aim to strengthen the BitTorrent protocol and then deliver more features that inspire innovation across industries.”
He added, “More than 100 million users soon will have the opportunity to be part of a boundary-free internet that supports personal privacy and connection around the world.”
The BitTorrent protocol client, with Speed, can receive tokens for “seeding” files for longer periods. Download speeds on peer-to-peer networks will likely get faster and become more readily available with tokenized incentivization for seeding files.
Currently, Speed is undergoing extensive testing on the network in order to ensure users find the new software as seamless and reliable as the existing one, said BitTorrent Speed development head Justin Knoll.
“When users gain access to BitTorrent Speed, they will be blown away by the improvements we’ve made to the client they know and love today,” Knoll stated.
The company also announced that BTT will be exclusively available to non-US accounts on Binance Launchpad, leading digital currency exchange Binance’s exclusive token sale platform, on January 28, 7am PST.
The new tokenized features will not affect users’ ability to download or seed, as they are backward compatible with the previous versions. Speed will be available on other BitTorrent clients by late 2019.
