Antonopoulos Campaigns to Send ‘We Accept Bitcoin’ Signs to Yelp Businesses
Popular Bitcoin advocate and Blockchain’s chief security officer, Andreas Antonopoulos started a “We Accept Bitcoin” campaign on Reddit. Since Yelp, a business review website, recently allowed businesses who accept Bitcoin to indicate that they do so on its website, Antonopoulos thinks it’s time to make the most of Yelp. He proposes,
“That we create a new vinyl sticker with ‘We Accept Bitcoin’ with the bitcoin logo and send these to any business that we find on Yelp taking bitcoin.”
Initially the plan was to incorporate both the Yelp and Bitcoin logo into one vinyl sticker, however many redditors did not approve of the idea. They said that they either didn’t like Yelp or didn’t like using its logo without authorization. As such, Antonopoulos updated his post and wrote that the plan will work if just the “We Accept Bitcoin” vinyl sticker is sent to Bitcoin accepting Yelp businesses.
Details on the “We Accept Bitcoin” Campaign
In order to kick start the campaign, Antonopoulos writes that he needs the Bitcoin community’s assistance. He writes that he requires,
-
A graphic design that has “We Accept Bitcoin” graphics on a single half-letter page or similar size.
-
An envelope design big enough to fit the sticker without folding and including the Bitcoin logos in place of a return address
-
A printing company that will print color on vinyl static-cling stickers and perhaps takes bitcoin
-
A script to extract the list of companies on Yelp that accept bitcoin
-
A script to extract the address of companies on coinmap and other listing sites that are also on Yelp but not yet listing their bitcoin status
-
Volunteers to help with printing, envelope stuffing, stamp licking and posting
Antonopoulos concludes his post by mentioning that this campaign will help put the Bitcoin logo on each of the Bitcoin accepting Yelp businesses’ stores. It will also serve as a reminder for business to check the new options on Yelp. Lastly, it will garner a lot of attention to Yelp’s decision in including Bitcoin which will in short drive other businesses to do the same.
Reddit Users Respond
Quite a few reddit users responded to Antonopoulos’ campaign idea. Many liked the idea of spreading Bitcoin awareness through “We Accept Bitcoin” signs. However, some did not like adding the Yelp logo to the sign. This was taken into consideration, and Antonopoulos suggested simply just sending the “We Accept Bitcoin” signs to Bitcoin accepting Yelp businesses. There will be no Yelp association on the signs.
